Adoption Process

Step One

Check out all the horses that Equine Welfare Society has available for adoption.  If you find one that interests you, please contact our trainer, Chanda Bolyen, via email or telephone (434) 282-7252.

Step Two

If you’d like to set up a time to come and meet an adoptable horse and try him or her, please fill out an on-line adoption interest information form.

Step Three

Equine Welfare Society requires two riding trials for horses in our training program and one visit for companion horses or un-started young stock.  This helps us determine the compatibility of the horse and adopter.

Step Four

Upon both parties agreeing to proceed, Equine Welfare Society will coordinate completion of the adoption process with us or one of our collaborating organizations. EWS and some organizations require a site visit. Click here to read more about what a farm visit might entail.

Step Five

After completing the adoption process with EWS or one of our collaborating organizations, the adopter will have two weeks to take the horse home. As an Equine Welfare Society horse, we happy to deliver your new horse, free of charge within four-hours from Keswick, Virginia.

After completion of the adoption process and farm inspection (if applicable), Equine Welfare Society welcomes any veterinary pre-adoption examinations on the horse of interest.
